If you heard the first disc by this trio, you know that Scott Henderson, Steve Smith, and Victor Wooten are not shy about unloading everything in their arsenal in the name of fusion. VTT2 showcases these giants of the electric-jazz world on a new set of high-energy, no-holds-barred works. If you like blazing guitar, popping bass, and thunderous drums, then these boys are sure to give you your fill-and then some.
Though generally similar in style to the first album, the music on VTT2 goes even deeper. Henderson, Smith, and Wooten are more familiar with each other's abilities, and they're able to push their collective envelope even further. It's also evident that more time was spent on the construction of the tunes, as there is less of a jam-session feel and greater evidence of a planned attack. As one would expect, though, VTT2 holds back nothing. Each musician plays at the height of his already legendary expertise. Highlights-and there are many-include the searing "The Litigants," Smith and Wooten's grooving duet "Drums Stop, No Good," and the self-explanatory "Catch Me if You Can."
